You do not need any Vietnamese to book a massage in District 1. Most spas take bookings through Zalo, Vietnam’s default messaging app, and reply in English. Send the treatment, date, time and number of people in one message and ask them to confirm the price. Written confirmation is what protects you at the till.

Ranked by how much written evidence you end up holding, because that is what decides whether a price dispute takes ten seconds or ten minutes.

Booking on Zalo, step by step
Zalo is Vietnam’s dominant messaging app — WhatsApp exists here but Zalo is what businesses actually use, and a spa’s Zalo is usually more responsive than its phone line. It passed 83 million monthly users in early 2026.
Install it and register. It works with a foreign phone number. Registration takes a couple of minutes and you will need to receive an SMS code.
Find the spa’s Zalo. It is normally linked from the Google Maps listing, the website footer, or the Facebook page. The number is often the same as the venue’s phone number.
Send one message with everything in it. Something like:
Hello, I would like to book a massage. Treatment: 60-minute full body oil massage Date: 14 September Time: 19:00 People: 2 Could you confirm the total price including any service charge and tax? Thank you.
Expect a reply in English within the hour during opening times. A venue that replies with a price, a confirmation and nothing else is doing exactly what it should.

If you’d rather not install another app
Fresha or the spa’s own booking form. Written confirmation by email, no app required. Slightly slower than Zalo but functionally equivalent.
Call from the Google Maps listing. You reach reception directly and can confirm the price verbally. You will have no record of it, which matters only if something goes wrong.
Ask your hotel to call. Convenient, and the hotel has a relationship it does not want to damage. You may pay a small margin.
Walk in. Fine at a venue that has already passed the checks in our guide to finding a legitimate massage spa in District 1. Weakest position if the bill differs from the menu.
What to include when you book
Six things. Missing any of them is what causes the awkward conversation on arrival.
- Treatment name and duration. “60-minute deep tissue“, not “a massage”
- Date and time in 24-hour format. Removes any am/pm ambiguity across languages
- Number of people, and whether you need one room or two. Shared rooms for two are part of the spa retreat combos in District 1, and are not always available at short notice
- Therapist gender preference, if you have one. Ask here rather than at reception — our guide for solo female travelers explains why
- Pregnancy, injuries or skin conditions. Pregnancy massage uses different positioning and is generally offered from the second trimester, so the venue needs to know in advance
- A request to confirm the total price including service charge and VAT
Do you need to book ahead?
For evenings and weekends in District 1, yes. Those slots fill first everywhere in the district, and the good venues fill earliest.
Weekday mornings and early afternoons are usually walk-in-able at most price tiers.
The thing that catches people out more than anything else is weekly closing days. Many spas in Ho Chi Minh City close one day a week, and it is rarely advertised on the sign. Chạm Spa is closed on Tuesdays. Check before you walk across the district.

Paying
Cash is widely preferred and is the only option at some budget venues. Mid-range and upscale spas take cards, occasionally with a small fee.
