What not to do after a facial depends on which facial you had: after a gentle one almost nothing changes, but after a peel or microneedling you skip makeup, sweat, swimming and strong actives for 24 hours, and you take the sun seriously for a week. In Saigon that last rule does most of the work. The city sits close to the equator, the ride home is usually by motorbike, and a beach weekend is never far away. This guide covers the first 48 hours and the week after, using only what each of our facial pages says.
Which Facial You Had Decides the Rules
Our facial treatment menu lists twelve treatments. Skin Tag Removal has its own aftercare (each treated point forms a small scab that falls away within one to two weeks), so this guide covers the other eleven. They fall into three groups. Six list no downtime. Two leave brief redness or flushing. Three need real care: the Herbal Skin Renew Peel (60 minutes, 550,000 ₫), the Intensive Acne Clear Chemical Peel (60 minutes, 500,000 ₫) and Collagen Boosting Therapy (1,200,000 ₫ per session), which is microneedling and, in its page’s words, “a genuine recovery period, unlike our other facials.”
If you are still choosing, our guide to choosing a facial by skin concern starts from the problem. This table starts from the appointment you already have, and where a page sets no rule, it says so.
| Treatment | What its page says to expect | Makeup | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facial Gua Sha | No downtime, “no redness beyond a healthy glow” | Immediately | No rule beyond daily sunscreen |
| CO2 Carboxy Therapy | A flush that fades within about an hour | Same day | No rule; sunscreen is “always sensible” |
| Vitamin C Therapy | No redness or flaking | Same day | Skipping sunscreen, which vitamin C works alongside |
| GSC+ Korean Glass Skin Therapy | No redness or peeling | Same day | No rule beyond daily sunscreen |
| Intensive Eye Rescue | No downtime or aftercare listed; massage and masks only | No rule given; ask | No rule given; ask when booking |
| DMK Enzyme Lymphatic Therapy | No downtime or aftercare listed; uses an enzyme product | No rule given; ask | No rule given; ask when booking, especially before sun or an event |
| Dermaquest Signature White | No peeling; slight flushing possible | No rule given; ask | Any day without sunscreen, cloudy ones included |
| Acne Care Treatment | Mild redness for a few hours | Not for the rest of the day | Squeezing spots at home |
| Herbal Skin Renew Peel | Mild flaking around days 2–4 | Not for 24 hours | 24 hours: exercise, sweat, pools, exfoliating, acidic or retinoid products |
| Intensive Acne Clear Chemical Peel | Redness for hours; flaking from day 2–3, settling within a week | Not for 24 hours | 24 hours: sweat, swimming. Several days: acids, retinoids |
| Collagen Boosting Therapy | Redness like moderate sunburn for 12–48 hours; flaking around day 3–4 | Not for 24 hours | 24 hours: exercise, sweat, swimming, acidic or exfoliating products |
What Not to Do After a Facial: The First 48 Hours
The first three apply to every treatment; the rest matter after the peels and Collagen Boosting Therapy.
- Do not skip sunscreen the next morning, or any morning that week. The facial menu calls daily broad-spectrum sunscreen “the single thing that decides whether the result holds.”
- Do not touch, pick or scrub. The herbal peel page is blunt: “pulling away skin before it is ready is what causes marks.”
- Do not put makeup on treated skin too soon. Wait 24 hours after either peel or Collagen Boosting Therapy, and the rest of the day after Acne Care Treatment.
- Do not work out or sweat for 24 hours. In this city that includes a hot walk to lunch.
- Do not swim for 24 hours, in a pool or the sea.
- Do not go straight back to acids, scrubs or retinoids. Gentle cleanser and moisturizer only.
- Do not let a helmet strap or face mask rub the treated skin on the ride home.
- Do not put a date you cannot move inside the flaking window.
The Sun Rule Lasts All Week
Every other restriction ends after a day or two. The herbal peel page warns that for the following week “freshly resurfaced skin burns and pigments far more easily,” and asks for sunscreen every morning, reapplied outdoors, “plus a hat during the middle of the day.” The World Health Organization’s fact sheet on ultraviolet radiation explains why that matters here: “the closer to the equator, the higher the UVR levels,” and levels “can be high even with cloud cover.” Our guide to skincare in Saigon’s humid climate puts the rainy-season version plainly: “Do not drop sunscreen because it is overcast.”
Sunscreen does not buy extra time outside, either. The same WHO fact sheet says sun protection “is best achieved by seeking shade and wearing clothes rather than applying sunscreens.” The American Academy of Dermatology’s answers to common questions about chemical peels list failing to protect your skin from the sun among the things that make infection or scarring after a peel far more likely. If you do burn, our guide to what a sunburn rules out at the spa covers which treatments wait.
Sweat, Humidity and the Motorbike Ride Home
All three resurfacing pages rule out sweating for 24 hours, and here a midday walk or twenty minutes in traffic is enough. Our climate guide explains why: “Sweat does not clean your face. It leaves salt, and it carries sebum across the skin rather than removing it.”
Then there is the ride. A chin strap and a cloth face mask rub the jaw and cheeks the whole way, and, as the same guide notes, a helmet “holds heat against the scalp and prevents any air movement,” so you sweat underneath it. The AAD warns that rubbing or scratching skin treated with a chemical peel can cause an infection. After a peel or Collagen Boosting Therapy, a car home is the gentler choice. If you ride, wear a fresh mask and blot sweat instead of wiping it. After the no-downtime facials, ride as normal.
Extraction Days: Hands Off
Acne Care Treatment (60 minutes, 350,000 ₫) softens the skin with warmth, then clears blackheads and congestion with controlled extraction; deep cystic spots are left alone, because “forcing those causes scarring.” Redness where extraction was done usually settles by the next morning. Leave makeup off for the rest of the day.
Its page names two habits that matter most between visits: daily sunscreen, and not squeezing at home, which “is what turns a spot that would have faded into a mark that lasts months.” If a new spot appears in the week after the acne peel, that page describes a brief purge that “looks like a small breakout in the first week and then clears.” Leave that alone too.
Pools, the Sea and a Weekend in Vũng Tàu or Phú Quốc
The 24-hour swimming rule is easy to forget on a trip, and the light at the coast is the bigger risk. The WHO notes that “reflective surfaces, such as water, sand and fresh snow, increase the UVR level.” So plan the order. For a fresh face on the trip, book a no-downtime facial; the CO2 Carboxy page suggests “a day or two ahead” so the flush has settled. Save the peels and Collagen Boosting Therapy for after you return, once any sunburn has calmed: all three pages list recent sunburn as a reason to wait. For how a CO2 facial differs from the injected medical version of carboxytherapy, see our carboxytherapy guide.
Flying the next day is less of an issue. Nothing on our facial pages rules out a flight. Plan around when the flaking falls, possibly mid-trip, and the sun where you land.
Retinoids, Acids and Isotretinoin
The herbal peel page rules out anything “exfoliating, acidic or retinoid-based” for 24 hours, the acne peel page keeps acids and retinoids off for several days, and Collagen Boosting Therapy rules out acids and exfoliants for 24 hours. The gentler facials’ pages set no restart rule, so ask before you leave.
Prescription medication matters more. Both peel pages and the Acne Care page ask you to tell us before booking if you take isotretinoin or prescription retinoids; the Collagen Boosting page asks the same about isotretinoin. The NHS’s guidance on isotretinoin tells people taking it not to “have skin treatments such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels.” The acne peel and Collagen Boosting pages say a waiting period is required after it but do not publish its length, so ask your prescriber.
Planning a Facial Around an Event
Collagen Boosting Therapy asks for “at least a week” before an important event, the acne peel page says seven to ten days, and the herbal peel page a week. Our wedding skin preparation timeline uses the same week to ten days for anything that causes visible redness or peeling, with two weeks as extra margin, and times a gentle, hydrating final facial one to three days before, not the same morning. And do not try a treatment you have never had close to a date you cannot move.
When Redness or Swelling Means Calling Us or a Doctor
Some after-effects are expected: redness for a few hours after acne care or the acne peel, a tight, warm first evening after the acne peel or Collagen Boosting Therapy, 12 to 48 hours of sunburn-like redness after microneedling, and flaking within the windows above.
Message us on Zalo or WhatsApp if anything outlasts the window its page gives, or if you are unsure. Beyond that, see a doctor. The AAD’s advice after a peel is direct: “If your skin burns, itches, or swells, contact your dermatologist.” Our facial guide draws the same line: “Anything painful, spreading or refusing to settle is a medical question.”
Plan the Week, Not Just the Appointment
Most of what not to do after a facial fits into two time spans. For 24 hours after a peel or Collagen Boosting Therapy, keep makeup, sweat, swimming, strong actives and your hands off the skin. For the week after, treat the Saigon sun as the main risk, overcast or not. The gentle facials ask little beyond sunscreen. The rest is timing: resurfacing after the beach, not before, two weeks between anything that flakes and a date that matters, and prescriptions mentioned when you book.

Frequently Asked Questions About Facial Aftercare in Saigon
What Not to Do After a Facial Before a Beach Trip?
Do not book a peel or Collagen Boosting Therapy in the days before you go. Both peels flake from around day two, Collagen Boosting needs at least a week, and all three rule out swimming for 24 hours. CO2 Carboxy Therapy, Vitamin C Therapy, GSC+ Korean Glass Skin Therapy and Facial Gua Sha leave nothing to recover from.
How Soon Can I Wear Makeup After a Facial at Chạm Spa?
Straight away after Facial Gua Sha, CO2 Carboxy Therapy, Vitamin C Therapy or GSC+ Korean Glass Skin Therapy. After Acne Care Treatment, wait until the next day; after either peel or Collagen Boosting Therapy, 24 hours. The Dermaquest Signature White page sets no makeup rule, so ask.
Can I Go to the Gym the Evening After a Peel?
No. Both peel pages rule out sweating for the first 24 hours, so the gym, a run and a hot afternoon walk wait until the next day. The no-downtime facials set no exercise rule; if it matters, ask before you leave.
Is It Safe to Fly the Day After a Facial?
Nothing on our facial pages rules out a flight. Plan around the timing: flaking after a peel usually starts around day two, and the week-long sun rule still applies at your destination.
Can a Motorbike Helmet Irritate My Skin After a Peel?
It can. The strap and a cloth mask rub the jaw and cheeks, and the helmet traps heat, so you sweat. The American Academy of Dermatology warns that rubbing skin treated with a chemical peel can cause an infection, so take a car home if you can.
Can I Use My Retinol Serum the Night After a Facial?
Not after a peel or Collagen Boosting Therapy. The herbal peel page rules out retinoid-based products for 24 hours, and the acne peel page keeps retinoids off for several days. The gentler facials set no restart rule, so ask rather than guess.
How Long After Stopping Isotretinoin Can I Book a Peel?
Our acne peel and Collagen Boosting pages say a waiting period is required but do not publish its length, so ask the doctor who prescribed it and tell us when you book. While you are taking it, the NHS says not to have chemical peels or microdermabrasion.
